Secure ways to access accounts overseas
Cash
You may find that it's handy to have at least some local currency on hand. If you do need cash while travelling, withdrawing larger amounts less often can help to avoid ATM fees, however be careful if carrying large amounts of cash with you.
If you want to take local currency overseas with you, you can organise your foreign currency 24/7 online to be collected at your preferred branch for pick up within 3-5 business days.
Foreign cash can be ordered up to 21 days in advance.
Credit and Debit cards
Pay and withdraw up to $2,000 AUD per day (per card), by selecting 'Credit' with your Visa Debit Card or Visa Credit Card where the Visa logo is displayed. You can also withdraw money with your rediCARD PLUS at any overseas ATM displaying the PLUS logo.
Check your cards' credit limits and expiry dates, make sure your credit limits suit your travelling budget and renew your card if needed.
Be aware that some countries may require a six-digit PIN when paying by card, though your PIN may only be four digits. Simply enter '00' at the start to make your PIN six digits. For example, 1234 would become 001234.
ATMs
Local ATMs may have different limits on transactions and fees and charges may apply. Similar to when you’re paying by card, some ATMs may require a six-digit PIN. Simply add '00' to the start of your four-digit PIN when withdrawing cash.
